Welcome to NYC Auctioneers Association Inc.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:

The Auctioneer’s Association, Inc. is a self-supporting, unaffiliated individual membership organization.  Membership is intended for those auctioneers operating under New York City Licenses.  Elected officers include a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.

ORIGIN:

The Auctioneer’s Association, Inc., established in 1901, merged with the Association of United Auctioneers, organized in 1970, to form a non-profit organization in the 1980s.  The group incorporated to establish an effective profession-wide affiliation working cooperatively for the elevation of the standards of the auction profession.

PURPOSE:

The Association promotes the exchange of ideas and experiences, good fellowship, cooperation and mutual interest among its members.  It fosters and advances the trade and commerce of its members and the auction industry.  It holds meetings and provides discussion panels on various aspects of the auction industry.  The Association endorses lawful actions to promote the general welfare of the auction industry.

PRINCIPALS AND CODE OF ETHICS:

The Principles and Code of Ethics are promulgated to 1) inform those who use the services of members as to what constitutes competent and ethical practice; 2) to serve as a guide to its own members in achieving competency in auctioneering; 3) in adhering to ethical standards; 4) to keep the members abreast of current legislation and auction trends; and 5) encourage competence, skill and understanding of ethical principles.

EDUCATION AND CIVICS:

All educational activities are designed for both professionals and the public. Auctioneers Association, Inc. serves as a source and stimulus.  New information is made available to members through the website and quarterly meetings.

NEW MEMBERSHIP:

The required qualifications include: 1) must be 21 years of age, 2) affiliated auction practice for 12 months prior to application; and 3) a citizen of the United States.  The applicant must submit application to the Secretary of the Association and must be endorsed by two members in good standing.

MEETINGS:

Meetings are held quarterly at a public restaurant in Manhattan, with frequent guest speakers who work in specialized fields.  Events are posted on the Association’s website.
